PACI Instance Manager is not accessible

Article ID: 113177, created on Jan 17, 2012, last review on Feb 12, 2015

  • Parallels Operations Automation

When trying to access the Hardware Node list in POA Provider's CP at Top > Service Director > Cloud Infrastructure Manager the error message is displayed:
Error Occurred
Failed to get HN list with following error: Error connecting to IM: Empty reply from server for method GET URI

Also, the file /var/log/IM/terracotta-startup.log exhibits the following errors:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

Most likely, the server (or virtual machine or Parallels Virtuozzo Containers container) does not have sufficient RAM to run the Instance Manager application.

Make sure that the available amount of RAM exceeds 8GB.
For more information, refer to the Cloud Infrastructure module deployment guide, page 17.

NOTE: If Instance Manager is installed inside a container on Parallels Server Bare Metal or on a Parallels Virtuozzo Containers node, make sure that your memory allocation limit is 8GB or more.
