How to install PVA 6.1 Management Node to a PVCfL container

This article describes how to install PVA 6.1 Management Node inside a container.

Prepare a host to install PVA Management Node to:

  1. Create the container:

    ~# vzctl create 50 --ostemplate centos-6-x86_64 --hostname pva-mn.domain.tld
    

    Note: It is necessary to setup a proper hostname for the PVA MN container to avoid problems with mysql database initialization and service startup.

  2. Set container parameters and limits:

    For Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux 4.7 and Parallels Cloud Server 6.0:

    ~# vzctl set 50 --save --diskspace 20000000 --ram 1024M --swap 2048M --ipadd 10.11.12.13 --offline_management no --nameserver 8.8.8.8 --user root:'Pa$$w0rd4PvA'
    

    For Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux 4.6 and 4.0:

    ~# vzctl set 50 --save --applyconfig slm.2048MB --diskspace 20000000 --ipadd 10.11.12.13 --offline_management no --nameserver 8.8.8.8 --user root:'Pa$$w0rd4PvA'
    
  3. Start the container:

    ~# vzctl start 50
    
  4. Install perl-DBI package:

    ~# vzpkg install 50 -p perl-DBI
    

Using a web-installer:

  1. Download PVA Management Node installer:

    ~# wget http://download.pa.parallels.com/pva/pva-setup-deploy.x86_64
    
  2. Extract the installer binary:

    ~# chmod a+x pva-setup-deploy.x86_64
    ~# ./pva-setup-deploy.x86_64 -d /vz/root/50/root/ --extract
    
  3. Launch PVA Management Node installation:

    ~# vzctl enter 50
    ~# cd /root
    ~# ./pva-setup --install
    

Using a full distributive:

  1. Download PVA Management Node distribution on the hardware node:

    ~# wget http://download.pa.parallels.com/pva/downloads/linux/x86_64/pva_mn-linux-x86_64-6.0-2706.tar.gz
    
  2. Extract the installer binary to the container's directory /root:

    ~# tar -xvzf pva_mn-linux-x86_64-6.0-2706.tar.gz -C /vz/root/50/root/
    
  3. Launch PVA Management Node installation in the created container:

    ~# vzctl enter 50
    ~# cd /root/pva_mn/
    ~# ./pva-setup -r local --install
