VMware tools cannot be removed from a VM which was converted from a VMware VM to a Parallels Server VM. The following error appears on an attempt to uninstall VMware tools:

Setup failed to determine which VMware product this virtual machine is running on. Click OK to cancel the installation.

The solution is to remove VMware tools from the VMware VM before migrating it to a Parallels Server VM.
